By this time, one of my wheel bearings, which had started to grumble a couple of days before, was making a dreadful noise. Since the whole point of the trip was to get to the top of Stelvio for lunch, I decided to go straight there, and worry about fixing the car afterwards.

I got the car to the top of Stelvio, and here's the proof:

Astonishingly, I found some Dutch guys at the top who sold me a new wheel bearing. I drove back down the hill to Bormio, and left the car at a garage that appeared to be closed for lunch. Dave Ackerman kindly took me back up to the top of Stelvio for the lunch.

Stelvio lunch

After lunch, Tut took me back down to Bormio, where I failed miserably to find anyone to mend the car. I was rescued by Luciano and his friends. Luciano took me to his favourite mechanic, Andrea Bordin in Lecco, and then found a hotel for me.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped me
